Wallis is a London based artist originally from Darlington, North East of England. In 2012 Helen completed an MA in Fine Art Painting at the Slade School of art funded with a bursary awarded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Since leaving the Slade Helen has exhibited her work in several group shows within the UK and has continued to work in a variety of different mediums.
Illustrating the alphabet is one of Helen’s biggest projects to date taking over one thousand hours to complete using fine-line pigment ink. These hand-drawn illustrations are combined with exotic imagery to create contemporary and dramatic designs which are digitally printed on luxurious fabrics, including rich velvets and satins, to produce a unique range of soft furnishings and furniture.
Helen Wallis also creates limited linocut cards with designs that are naïve and playful, which, are individually printed by hand to make sure they have rich vivid colours that mass commercially printed cards lack. Any hand printed imperfections add to the design and originality of each card.
